China, ASEAN watchdogs meet

Shen Changyu, commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office, met his counterparts from members of the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations in Suzhou on Monday. It is the first time that a China-ASEAN IP heads meeting has taken place in a Chinese city other than Beijing. China and ASEAN members will share their experiences and advance cooperation, to boost technological innovation and economic prosperity in their respective countries, Shen said at the meeting.

Police seize major haul of fake liquor

Police in Yining city recently investigated in a case involving counterfeit liquor trademarks. They seized two suspects and found more than 50 boxes of liquor bearing counterfeits of famous trademark labels such as Moutai and Wuliangye at their hideout. The total involved illegal value was estimated at more than 600,000 yuan ($91,700).

Official inspections find counterfeits

IP authorities in Guangxi organized law enforcement campaigns at the 14th China-ASEAN Expo, held last week in Nanning. Officials inspected products in six exhibition areas including building materials, food, farm produce and electronics and home appliances, involving about 80 patents. They found two cases involving counterfeits. The organizer of the expo set up IP centers to process complaints and offer consultations.

Provincial govt unveils pilot schools list

The Shaanxi government recently unveiled the list of the fifth group of pilot schools for IP education, covering 27 primary, middle and vocational schools. The province currently has 70 such schools. The number is projected to reach 100 by the end of next year. That's according to a plan released by the provincial IP administration to promote IP education. The listed pilot schools will receive financial support to encourage their students to make inventions.

Students win patent for 3-D lock toy design

Three graduates of Beijing Chaoyang Experimental Primary School recently received a design patent certificate from the State Intellectual Property Office, in recognition of the 3D-printed, simplified Luban lock they created, a traditional Chinese toy. The school bought 3D-printers in 2014 and offered related classes, where the students made the lock. Representatives from the school said they would contact manufacturers to help to commercialize the patent.

Military, civilian integration fair held

A military and civilian integration high-tech equipment exhibition, which kicked of on Monday, is displaying 422 technological achievements made by 354 companies nationwide. The items on show include super computers, high-performance processors and underwater robots. The one-week event will showcase 936 products and technological achievements online. There are three forums covering important and challenging topics in military and civilian integrated development.

Fund set to support Chengdu's pillar sectors

An intellectual property operation fund was launched in the provincial capital city Chengdu on Sept 15. Its total scale will be at least 2 billion yuan ($305 million). The fund intends to support pillar sectors in Chengdu, including the aerospace and rail transit industries. It will comprise a 300 million yuan main fund, which will hold shares in IP operation organizations, as well as several smaller funds that will invest in IP industrialization projects or IP-driven companies.

Animation contest kicks of in Hangzhou

The China Youth Animation Contest started on Sunday in Hangzhou, capital of the province. The city is home to a new animation industry center that is encouraging young creators in innovation and entrepreneurship. Teams are eligible to apply for the event. They must send in their animation creations, derivative products and related advanced technologies as entries. Selected entries and their producers will be funded. The contest will serve as an "accelerator" to help innovative and startup projects to grow, organizers said.
